Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in global economic development by contributing to employment generation, innovation, and regional competitiveness. In recent decades, internationalization has become increasingly important for SMEs seeking growth, diversification, and long-term sustainability. However, international expansion presents unique challenges for SMEs due to limited resources, managerial constraints, and unfamiliar foreign environments. This research article examines international expansion strategies adopted by SMEs, focusing on market entry modes, strategic drivers, barriers, and performance outcomes. By synthesizing existing literature and proposing a comprehensive conceptual framework, the study provides theoretical insights and practical guidance for SME managers and policymakers. The findings highlight the importance of strategic planning, network relationships, digitalization, and incremental learning in successful SME internationalization.
