The International Journal of Management (IJM) follows the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding the responsible and transparent use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scholarly work. This policy ensures integrity, accountability, and transparency in all stages of the research and publication process.
Acceptable Use of Generative AI
- Authors may use AI tools (e.g., language editing, grammar improvement, formatting assistance) to improve readability.
- AI may be used for data analysis support, provided the methodology is clearly described and verified by authors.
- Use of AI must be limited to assisting the writing process and must not replace author intellectual contribution.
Disclosure Requirements
- Any use of Generative AI tools must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript.
- Authors must specify:
- The name of the AI tool used
- The purpose of use (e.g., language editing, data analysis, figure creation)
- The extent of AI involvement in the research or writing process
- Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy and integrity of all content.
Restrictions on AI Use
- Generative AI tools must NOT be listed as authors or co-authors under any circumstances.
- AI must not be used to generate fabricated data, results, citations, or references.
- AI-generated content must be carefully reviewed and validated by the authors before submission.
- AI tools must not replace core scholarly responsibilities such as interpretation, critical analysis, and conclusion drawing.
Author Responsibility
- Authors are fully accountable for all submitted content, including any AI-assisted material.
- Any errors, inaccuracies, or ethical issues arising from AI-generated content are the responsibility of the human authors.
- Authors must ensure compliance with research ethics, originality, and publication standards.
Editorial and Review Use of AI
- Editors and reviewers must not use Generative AI to process or evaluate confidential manuscripts.
- Manuscripts under review must remain strictly confidential and not be uploaded into external AI systems.
- Any breach of confidentiality through AI tools is considered an ethical violation.
Ethical Compliance (COPE Guidelines)
This policy aligns with COPE recommendations, emphasizing:
- Transparency in AI usage
- Protection of research integrity
- Accountability of human authors
- Prevention of misinformation and fabricated content
Misuse of AI Tools
The following practices are strictly prohibited:
- Submitting AI-generated manuscripts without human oversight.
- Using AI to fabricate data, references, or research findings.
- Misrepresenting AI-generated content as original human work.
- Using AI tools in peer review or editorial decision-making.
Commitment to Responsible AI Use
IJM encourages innovation while maintaining strict ethical standards. The journal supports the responsible integration of AI tools only when they enhance clarity, transparency, and research quality without compromising academic integrity.
